Trevor VanBlakenstein — Dental Hygienist
Trevor is Alaskan raised and went to high school at Service High. Fun fact about him is that his mother is also a dental hygienist which is what made him decide to pursue dental hygiene. He completed the Dental Hygiene program at UAA and came to our office shortly after. Trevor loves working with his patients and takes great pride in getting to know them. Trevor enjoys being able to help out the practice when needed and enjoys talking to patients. He does the best he can to make everyone feel comfortable and enjoy their time spent here. He performs his duties to the best of his ability during each hygiene appointment and likes to have fun and it shows.
Outside of work, Trevor spends time with his fiancé, Melissa and their daughter. He enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors and playing sports. His favorite quote is, “Let’s Go!” He is also a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Lakers and loves to talk sports with his patients. Liz Chavira — Lead Dental Assistant
Liz was born and raised in Salem, Oregon, and moved to Anchorage when she was 18. Having experienced the transformative effects of dentistry herself, Liz began her training and completed the dental program at the University of Texas. She started in the business by working for the State of Texas dental department. To further her career and expand her skills she moved to private practice. She has now been working in the industry for over 16 years. In her free time, she likes to walk her dog Sugar, read and cook delicious food. One of the things she enjoys most about going to work is that every day is a new experience and another opportunity to ensure that her patients feel comfortable and leave happy. Liz also speaks Spanish so patients who would feel more comfortable with a Spanish speaker, please request her at the front desk.
Tiphanni Chamberlain — Certified Dental Assistant
Tiphanni has been working in the field of dentistry for many years. She is originally from Phoenix, Arizona, and moved to Anchorage a few years ago. Tiphanni has undergone many courses to increase her knowledge in the field as well as become a certified phlembotomist, CMA and EMT. She also has completed extensive training in an IV sedation course through OHSU School of Dentistry.
Tiphanni has a beautiful baby girl and loves being a mother to her daughter. Tiphanni enjoys being part of a great team and is happy to help in any capacity at Alcan Dental Group. She takes great pride in creating lasting relationships with her patients.
Jenny Hill — Dental Assistant
For 24 years, Jenny has been working as a dental assistant and for 23 of those years she has been with Alcan Dental Group. Jenny is a dedicated and hard worker, commuting to Anchorage from Wasilla each day. She makes it in to work regardless of the rain, snow, earthquakes or wind. She is Alaskan raised and graduated high school from Wasilla High. She then went on to complete the dental assisting program at UAA.
In her free time, Jenny enjoys camping, fishing and road trips with her family. She appreciates that Alcan Dental Group is like one big family. She loves getting to know her patients and their families. She is a compassionate person and helps her patients feel more at ease in the dental chair.
Mary Baldwin — Dental Assistant
For over 20 years, Mary has been in the dental field. Mary graduated from UAA in the early 90’s from the Dental assisting program and has been in the industry ever since. Today, Dr. Laudon calls Mary DQ which is short for denture queen. She loves doing lab work and working alongside team members to give her patients the best care possible.
Mary is from Bermuda and spent time living in New York City before coming to Alaska. At the age of 13, she qualified for the Olympics in the 800-meter event in track. In her free time, she enjoys styling hair and nails as well as cooking and crafting.
Jay Martin — Dental Assistant
Jay has been working in the field of dentistry for some time. Jay loves learning new things every day from our dentists and team, and absolutely loves working as a dental assistant helping her patients. It is her goal to make her patients feel as comfortable as she can. Fun fact about Jay is that she is in school part-time getting her prerequisite courses done to become a dental hygienist.
Jay has two children, Azia and McKenzie, and a fiancé Theodore who she loves spending time with. When not at work, Jay enjoys reading, drawing, sewing and making science projects with her daughters. Don’t let the sweet smile fool you though, in her spare time Jay trains for female MMA fighting.
Elena Aleksova — Sterilization Tech
Since 2015, Elena has been working with our team as our sterilization technician. She gives 100% to her position each day so she can help her team members provide the best care. Elena loves how friendly everyone is in the office and feels it is like a big family.
Elena is originally from Bulgaria and now lives with her mother Ianka and son Anthony in Alaska. In her free time, Elena loves cooking authentic dishes from Bulgaria and spending time with family.
Angelica Martinez — Front Office Manager
Angelica has been in the dental field for over 17 years, having completed a variety of trainings in implant, scheduling and billing seminars. Angelica’s goal is to help patients from the moment they walk into the office. With her clinical and administrative knowledge, she can help patients with all of their dental needs.
Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her two sons, two daughters and dog, Hannah. She also enjoys working out at the gym, cooking and getting her nails done at the salon. Angelica is fluent in Spanish and English, so patients who would feel more comfortable with a Spanish speaker, please see her at the front desk.
Kristy Nanalook — Insurance Specialist
Kristy has been working in the dental field for over ten years and has immense knowledge in all things Medicaid. She handles all of the Medicaid verifications, prior authorizations and Medicaid Travel for our office. Contact us and ask to speak to Kristy if you have questions regarding your eligibility or benefits. Kristy really enjoys working with her patients to help them with their billing needs. As the office jokester, when asked about working with the team, she said, “The people I work with make it all happen. We’re like real life superheroes.”
Kristy is from Togiak, Alaska, and speaks fluent Yup’ik. She has a young son who she loves spending time with in her free time, as well as going commercial fishing with her family in Bristol Bay.
Caryl Sjostrom – Insurance Specialist
Caryl is a newer member of our dental team, having started at the beginning of this year. She is our skilled insurance billing administrator, and is eager to help you maximize your insurance benefits. Caryl understands how challenging the dental insurance process can be, so she is happy to work with you to help you make the most of your dental care. She loves being part of our large team and finds new ways to contribute each day.
When she isn’t working, Caryl tries to make the most of her time by fishing, hiking, running and reading. Her children keep her busy, so she spends a lot of time with her son at the hockey rink and with her daughter on the soccer field. Caryl looks forward to meeting you in our office!
Lauren Peterson — Front Desk Admin
For over five years, Lauren has been helping our office run more smoothly. You will usually find her welcoming patients in at the front desk, however, Lauren wears many hats in the office.
For all the years she has worked here, Lauren has enjoyed that the Alcan Dental Group has a family atmosphere. Outside of the office, Lauren likes spending time with her daughter, Sophia, who constantly keeps her on her toes. She also enjoys hiking, fishing, camping and playing hockey.
Dyna Yoon — Front Desk Admin
Dyna was born and raised in Guam and came to Alaska a few years ago with her husband who is in the military. Although you might speak with her on the phone when scheduling appointments, she is also trained in medical billing and has experience dental assisting. She is the queen of organization.
Dyna says everyone at the office has become her second family. She is always laughing and enjoying the company of her team. She makes it a priority to help patients feel at home while at our office. In her free time, she loves trying new recipes, reading and enjoying family game nights with her lovely family.
Venita VanAsdoll — Front Desk Admin
Venita is a recent addition to our team, but has been a patient of our office for over 10 years. Venita wears many hats in the office, helping in any capacity she can. She currently is attending school to complete her prerequisite courses to attend dental hygiene school. She loves the family feeling of the office and says it is great because Dr. Laudon treats his employees like his own family.
Venita was born in Alaska, but grew up in California with her family. Years ago, Venita returned to her roots and embraced all the Alaskan activities she could. In her free time, she likes to hunt, fish, and go hiking with her dog.
Kirsten Veech – Front Desk Admin
Having joined the team in January of 2019, Kirsten stays busy as our scheduling coordinator. She often remarks on how much she enjoys working with our friendly and skilled dental team. In fact, Kirsten’s love for dentistry runs deep, as she will soon be in the process of applying for dental school. In May of 2019, Kirsten will graduate with a degree in biomedical science with a minor in business management at UAF.
Kirsten was born and raised in Alaska and loves taking advantage of the outdoor activities that Alaska provides. Kirsten looks forward to working with you to provide you with a positive, enjoyable experience at our office.
Sydney Laudon — Front Desk Admin
Dr. Laudon’s daughter, Sydney, has been working at our office on and off since she was young. Alaskan born and raised, she attended A.J. Diamond High School. She then went on to complete her Bachelor of Science in Public Health at Oregon State University.
With her father being a dentist, she grew up working in the dental office. Growing up, conversation at dinner was always about dentistry and the cool, innovative technology that the dental field was coming out with. She hopes to follow in her father’s footsteps by becoming not only a dentist, but a leader in oral health education. Sydney was recently accepted in to dental school and starts in the fall of 2019. In her free time, she enjoys reading, going to concerts and traveling.
